Bike Sales

The MSU Surplus Store currently does not have bikes available (5/6/2008) and new bikes are not expected until middle summer (July or August).

Bikes are sold during regular public sale hours.

Bikes are no longer auctioned. They are individually priced and sold on a first come, first serve basis.

Due to liability concerns, test riding of the bikes is prohibited.

The majority of our inventory are mountain bikes and condition varies greatly.

Average price is $25-$30.  Some bikes sell for as much as $200 (infrequently) and some as low as a $1 (frequently).

Where do the Bikes Come From?

The Department of Police and Public Safety is notified by the Grounds department when they have identified bikes that have been abandoned or locked in unauthorized locations. DPPS will “Red” tag those bikes and impound the following day.

The largest sweep of abandoned bikes occurs after the students leave for summer break.

Impounded bikes will remain in DPPS custody in accordance with MSU ordinances and will then be released to the MSU Surplus Store. All registered bikes will be impounded for 90 days and non-registered bikes will be impounded between 8 and 30 days.
